Who’s in your driver seat?
I am one of those people who like to control my own destiny, like most of you. With that comes the responsibility of knowing that we are in charge of every decision made, for better or worse. Granted, we cannot control everything, and certainly not most outcomes, but we do have an input into the planning stages.
To that end, choose to be your own driver.
One important decision I made is to put my health first, both physical and mental. Driving this decision means choosing to make good food choices, choosing to exercise regularly, choosing not to smoke, not to do drugs, or over consume alcohol. Sure, could that be considered a sacrifice to some? Possibly.
But what is the alternative?
The alternative could be in 10, 15, 20 years from now we could find our self in a situation where we are no longer able to choose when to do what we want to do. Instead, our choice is now mandated because our health has been compromised.
A safe assumption is that anyone who has compromised health, or on medication for the rest of his or her life because of a lifestyle choice made in the early years, would have chosen another path.
Choose to take care of the engine that drives your body in order to put on a lot of good miles.
Choose to not develop adult onset diabetes by limiting your sugar intake. Choose to be in good health in order to dictate your own health regimen, not one that is mandated.
No, there are no guarantees. We cannot control the outcome, but we can certainly affect how the car is being driven.
Put in high octane gasoline.
Suggestions: Put the brake on nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods.
Accelerate: Eating more green leafy vegetables, more whole grains, eating “in” instead of “out”.
